This digital portfolio aims to demonstrate the work that I have completed during the two years of this program and illustrates how my skills and knowledge have improved in the communication field. As a media Practitioner, I have found the need to strengthen my ability of analyzing, evaluating, suggesting, and executing strategies in any communication scenario; especially those scenarios facing a communication crisis.

My Masters’ capstone project conveys my personal interest in analyzing a communication scenario and proposing strategies by applying a specific theoretical approach.  I decided to research the Caregiving Initiative of the non-profit organization, AARP.  I first identified the lack of caregivers as a crisis within the country. My motivation was to explore, from a communicative perspective, how the mainstream media organization was reacting to the crisis and how it was promoting the debate around topics related with the crisis. This in turn helped to determine if the audience was engaged or not in the debate.

We have worked with a broad list of theories these last two years. Most of them have provided the right tools for researching a topic and yielding findings for developing and executing a communication plan. I have learned that applying a theory requires a vast amount of knowledge, which will allow us to develop a theoretical approach and offer tangible applications in real-world settings. In order to propose a different and innovative plan, the researcher has to excel in the following learning outcomes:

The MA journey would not have been possible without the support
