Global Awareness

Definition:

Global awareness and understanding of international issues and practices related to communication demonstrated by at least one activity or assignment that asks students to explore a communication situation or problem from a global/international perspective.

Coming from a poor country, it is hard for me not to be aware of the global issues, especially the social and economic problems impacting underdeveloped countries.

One assignment that resonated with me was how poor countries are trying to deal with the burden of e-waste. The paper made reflect the global environmental crisis, where approximately 90 percent of the world’s electronic waste is being dumped illegally in developing nations.

The economic inequality around the world necessitates effective governmental policy and actions among poor countries. There is no doubt that in this networked era and information age power is controlled by those who control the information. This explains conflicts such as the e-waste, the racial division, the poverty crises, the woman discrimination, the drug traffics and multiple other issues related with violation of human rights.
